OPENING PRAYER: Dear Lord, make me more like you through the power of your word as I meditate on it.

Scripture Union SU Daily Guide | Message
Paul is bold to call himself “a prisoner of Christ Jesus” (v.1; see also 3:1). Imprisonment or persecution did not discourage him because he knew he was charting a noble course. Do you feel discouraged or ashamed when faced with ridicule, difficulties, trial or persecution because of your faith? Remember Christians are not exempted from these. What did he urge believers to do (v.1)? The distinguishing mark of a disciple is love (John 13:34,35). Point out what we are called to be (vs.2,3) and why? The church is the body of Christ. See how Paul puts it in vs.4-6. When the head controls the body, all parts work in harmony.
When the Holy Spirit, working through each member, is allowed to lead always, there will be unity and peace in the church because love has a chance to flow from one person to another. Impatience and personal differences have no place where love is the rule. Love promotes unity, unity promotes peace and power (Acts 2:42-47; 4:31-37). See also Psalm 133. The human body cannot function properly unless the head directs individual members, neither can the church have power and authority to direct the dying world unless she maintains touch with her Head.

• Holy Spirit, I need you; strengthen me to promote peace and unity in your church.
• Pray that the various efforts at communicating the gospel of Christ will yield immense results in the souls to be won.
